The box - Directed by Richard Kelly
Cast - Cameron Diaz, James Marsden
It is a new 2009 film about our moral boundaries and ethics because at the end of the day when the credits role, what the film really means, or even what it is about, is entirely up to us, the audience to decide. Some people say it is good and makes us think of the real reason that the movie was to educate us about something, or simply just a movie for people to be entertained. For example the movie coming out in a few weeks 2012... Supposedly, they say that is what going to happen to the world but did the media exaggerated that just to spite the audience for marketing to make us watch the movie. What really is going to happen to the world in a few years? We shall find out in 2012.
The box is about a man and his box with a button inside, a gift which he supplies to couples with a single trade-off: press the button encased in the box and somebody, somewhere, will die, yet you will be given a briefcase containing ONE MILLION DOLLARS and the box will move on to a new owner. You will not know them. You will not have any reason to care. However, you will be a millionaire you have to live the fact that you killed someone and are responsible for that life of a stranger.
Would you do it?
It is a very tough decision, I am still on a 50, 50 chance if that actually happened to me. It really depends on the person itself. However, who is it to decide if it is right or wrong to press it? No one, it all depends on our own morals. Some may think your not physically killing the person. Some may not.
The advantage to press the button:
- $1 million
- Don't have to worry about money,
- Support family and have anything you want with money
- The stranger that dies might be a bad person e.g. criminal
The disadvantage to press the button:
- A stranger will die / he might be a good person
- Have to live up the fact that you mentally killed someone
You are not supposed to really think too much, and that is the beauty of it. It is not so much a truly serious moral dilemma, as it is something more like a fable, and perhaps “ethics.” Which is the branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.
Is it RIGHT or WRONG? GOOD or BAD? Nobody knows. I have created a POLL on your right. I would love to know what you people think about this. So please feel free to leave a comment or answer to my POLL =)

Citizen journalism
Citizen journalism?
Is like street journalism. You don't have to be a journalist to let the world know what your thinking or reporting. It's basically using new technology to capture the evidence andostly on the internet adding it up, me.g. Blogs, YouTube, face-book, MySpace. Its human beings recording day to day bases e.g. news events. Then the public can respond to those posts on the internet and write their opinion on it.
From this stage, people with digital cameras can access to email. They email in pictures of events and stories. The advantages is for Newspapers and TV stations companies, when big events happen, such as the 911, much of the footage which the media have is from citizen journalists because they are first on the scene. Now big news companies ask for people to send in footage and photos of events or stories of anything they may have seen.
The advantages of citizen journalism are for people to have instant access to the incident. Without them you will not have any idea what the event was really like. Since TV crews would not go down their or journalist wouldn’t know that event was happening. So they can't prepare to be there at first sight. Therefore you need the public to be there already to get the real footage.
There are also disadvantages of citizen jounalist that people have to think about. The danger risk of taking the footage. Also citizen have no media training and no knowledge of any laws which they may be infringing either during the capture of the footage or the release of it to the media. E.g. Children being captured and not having their parent’s permission.
In the end citizen journalism will still remain as it is, becoming more and more useful to the media and for people to upload photos or videos instantly onto the internet. The public will have quick access to everything.
